# Predictions

Predictions lets users take positions on real-world event markets from
inside Core Web — prices, sports, and other outcome markets, with positions
and settlement handled by the integrated market protocol.

## The shape of it

- Each market is a question with outcome shares; buying a side is an
  on-chain position from the user's account.
- Settlement follows the market's resolution source; winnings are claimable
  to the same account.
- Open positions appear in the user's [portfolio](/docs/core-web/portfolio)
  alongside other DeFi positions.

## Developer notes

Positions are ordinary protocol positions — indexable on-chain and visible
in other frontends for the same markets. There is no Core-specific
predictions API; this page exists so developers understand what the
transactions they see from Core users represent.
